PB 180!

I got one! YAY!

HDD is dead, no battery, no rear door, screen has vignetting and only 4MB RAM... but it's got a clean case, no cracks and it boots off the floppy drive. This thing looks barely used, palm area and mouse buttons don't show any wear.

best part was the price $0 :)

oddity, I just noticed, if I push on the palm rest area it cuts the power... time to investigate! (was planning on opining it up any how to see if maybe I got lucky and the HDD was just disconnected or something.

If you look in the powerbook forum, in the "Dead PB170 LCD Display" thread I made, someone replied about replacing capacitors to fix the screen vignetting.

You cant beat that price!

opened, no HDD at all, screws around the cage are missing and there is a loose ground that was near the SCSI connector, possibly making contact with it (could be why pushing down in that area it shut off) :-/

Guess I need a parts machine now

woo, maybe. found another 180, doesn't turn on, but its complete has a case, battery conditioner etc. also free (but need to pay for shipping) hopefully this one will have a functioning HDD  At the very least it should have those missing internal screws.

Of course, this one was even more disasembled than the last, no HDD, no case screws, but I have 1/2 the internal screws I was looking for xx(

But it does turn on with the battery in it, maybe the battery actually holds a slight charge still and the aftermarket power adaptor doesn't have enough oomph for a 180

in any case it's got a perfect screen in it! so at least I'm good there :)

Sounds like my luck with powerbooks, only not in the 190/5300 series. I had 5 duds, 2 working.

The 2 working died within a year.
