Outbound 125...

To connect the Outbound to a Plus or SE as described in the article you need a docking card installed in the host machine. I've been hoping to find one of those docking cards for 20 years now. Chances are slim. A Mac with the docking card installed can't boot unless connected to the Outbound (no ROMs) so anyone finding a Plus or SE with a docking card installed is likely to trash it as a non working machine, unless they have more than a casual interest in the machine.

All that said, with the SCSI adapter, one can boot the Outbound in disk mode and it will look like an external hard drive to a Mac connected through the SCSI port. Not ad cool as the docking card but the earliest example of disk target mode on a Mac.

James picked up this rare outbound monitor today!!! Very rare.. And some Outbound diagnostic ROMS. The monitor connects SCSI!! Pretty crazy!

I also got boxes full of outbound stuff!!!! Mostly stuff for the notebooks.... like 6 or 7 processor daughter cards!!! ROMS... hard drives... plastics... spare machines....

Some interesting notes on the 125 that people who have one should read... Some VERY IMPORTANT "Don't Do's" in the article.. when it comes to trying the RGB connector on an external monitor... or ram that uses higher voltages may corrupt the EPROM.... a must read for 125 owners..

Yeah this guy apparently was an outbound former dealer.. and also programmed for Apple... A great contact for outbound lovers to have!

What's curious is this one daughterboard that appears to have a 50mhz. 030 chip and the RAM sticks have thin tape on the backside of them blocking the back connectors.... ideas??

My guess is that the tape is due to some kind of non-standard wiring in the RAM slots. SIMMs have redundant contacts- only the front or back contacts are used by a slot as the contacts on one side address all of the module's RAM. This is why a "30 pin" SIMM actually has 60 contacts and a "72 pin" has 144.

Great find! Did you ask your source about the docking interface card for the Plus or SE? Can he provide any insight or guidance to installing larger than 80 MB hard drives in the 125 -- not so much to provide more storage, but rather vecause those old Connor drives are hard to find.

I actually wrote most of the stuff in the referenced Wiki. It didn't come from an Outbound employee. It's based on my experience.

I think Lapis or maybe Focus Enhancements sold a line of SCSI based displays back when. Reviews said they were kind of slow but good enough for presentations, IIRC.

I have nothing of real value to add to this thread, as I have no firsthand experience or knowledge of the Outbound machines. However, I remember *lusting* after them as a kid when I'd been given a big box of early MacWorld magazines by a friendly school librarian, so I'm just delighted to see someone here taking ownership of a cache of Outbound stuff. Such a weird, cool machine - I hope you have a blast with it!

I bid on the loads of Outbound spare parts going on ebay but gave in in the end to whoever won, shipping US -> UK is just too much of a killer and I can't keep sending stuff to my New York office or they'll get annoyed with me!
