Open archive result in 0k file

I am opening this archive on Pc (win 10) : http://macgui.com/downloads/?file_id=20337

The first time I decompress, I get a .sit file, so I decompress it again and I end up with a folder with 2 files.

The problem is that both files are 0K; the archive itself is about 8K. Not sure if this is right, the archive itself seems to be a bit small for being a system disk, but the uncompressed file is basically unusuable.

Is a known problem on stuffit expander on Windows?

Welcome to the wonderful world of resource forks.  You can decompress that file on a 68k Mac using Stuffit Expander 5.5.  It will give you two files, Radius Accelerator (8K), and Radius MATH (16K).   This is not a system disk, but rather a couple of extensions you would copy to your system disk.

Yeah modern versions of Stuffit can get things wrong. On my Mac I use TheUnarchiver, sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't.

You're better off with an old version of stuffit on a mac. When The Unarchiver fails, I use Stuffit 7.0.3 on an OS9 virtual machine (SheepShaver).

That's one way to do it. You can also use Mini vMac I think, although I never got the 'file import' program to work properly.

There are a lot of ways.

It took me a while to figure out the ImportF1 on Mini vMac.  I had to use it in conjunction with MiniUnZp.  Take the files you want to move into Mini vMac and use the OS X "Compress" function to create an archive called arc.zip.  Move arc.zip into mini vMac with ImportF1.  Now use MiniUnZp to decompress arc.zip to a folder, and the files will be inside.  A bit convoluted, but it works.   I found it much more convenient to setup Basilisk II with a "unix" shared folder.  Then you can just move things in and out of a directory.

I see; so the issue is related not only to the software used to open the file, but to the file itself. I do recall that OSX use a 2 part file; where one is the visible part and the other is the actual data, hidden; I guess stuffit on windows is just taking the file part?

I will have to prepare a virtual machine to extract the files then; I have only another mac which run 10.10, so it won't work.

On a side note, I assume that these 2 files are used to enable the card under System 6? I see no noticeable difference between and after the installation of the card, so I assume it needs these files to run correctly.

I will try with Basilisk too, I had little luck with that emulator, since I get black screen at launch for some reasons.

The only 68k emu that I am able to run is mini vMac, and I am using a 100 mb disk file via hdexp131 to put data in and out the image; although I had no luck from day 1 with archives and compressed files, since even the sit files are not opened neither in the emulator nor on the real SE (I have to check what version of stuffit I have, it is the latest version working on System 6.0. 8-) .

I get these files from macgarden site and few others BTW

So far no luck opening this archive; I did check with another person that has a newer mac running OS8 and even with his stuffit, the sit archive won't open.

At this point I am clueless about how to run the accelerator card :(

Try this file I have attached.  Extract the zip in Windows, then move the .hqx file onto your Mac without trying to open it in Windows.  Once on the Mac, use BinHex to convert it back to an application.  You should be left with a .sea, which is a self extracting archive.  Open that up, and it should decompress to the extensions.

I'm not sure what is wrong with your process, but the original archive you linked to extracted with no issue.

Accel2_9.sea.hqx.zip

Thanks a lot! It does extract now without problems!
