not really a conquest, more of a PowerBook sighting

Filson, a local producer of the world's toughest outdoor gear, has this photo of one of their bags on their site... with an old school PB. A 5300? 1400?

Hrm. I can't find it on Columbia Sportswear's website... (And Columbia is based in Portland, not Seattle.) [:D] ]'> (Yes, that's a joke, son.)

Hrm... I always thought Columbia marketed itself as "toughest outdoor gear", but it appears that a company named Sergeant claims the trademark on that phrase.

I was more making fun of the fact that he was calling a company other than Columbia "producer of the world's toughest outdoor gear", then went on to find that yet ANOTHER company claims the trademark on that phrase. I could have sworn Columbia used the phrase, but I can't find it anywhere now.

That is my personal opinion about Filson, I didn't say it's their slogan... their tagline is "Might as well have the best." They don't make stuff with fleece, nylon, high-tech fabrics. They're pretty old school - wool, tin cloth, bridle leather, etc. If you touched some of their stuff, you'd see what I mean about it being tough. Columbia mass-produces a huge range of outdoor products, while Filson is made almost exclusively here in Seattle at their own factory and has a relatively limted product range. Don't get me wrong, I like Columbia products, but Filson is in an entirely different category of outdoor goods.

Anyway... this is getting off topic! I just think it's funny that they have a photo of an old PPC PowerBook on their site. Someone needs to update their marketing materials!

3400's are nice little machines.

Looks good in that pic too.

Would love to find a mint condition one. (laptop, not bag)

The CompUSA near my house, over behind the service desk, has a picture of a "laptop" under some adverts for servicing. Looks like a little old orange-screen 286 bugger or so :p

Last year I was looking at real estate for sale and in one of the free multiple listings magazines was an ad for looking for homes online and the illustration featured a 100 series PB, it was partially covered so I couldn't tell which one. The apple and trackball and teeny screen were easy to spot, though.
