sorry if its already been mentioned at some point in the past but i'm curious how fussy their logic boards are with whether the fan was physically present or not and also regarding using a quite different new fan (which would have a different feedback if thats a thing with the G5's logic board) as well?

Why would you do that, given how well the stock fans perform?
mm long version it is..
was curious about the particular g5's left for donation/sale because of bad/noisy fans and no incline to sort them out, silly enough i actually got up close to one of these such towers late last year as the kijiji person had both one of these and something else I was wanting .. i had to ask what that screeching noise in the hallway was, he simply told me to look in the right room and to not mind that theres only a solid drive in it .. uhh yeah in there was a rather clean g5 with its side off and needless to say i had to ask why it was on with the exposed side .. turns out a short time after me someone else was coming to see that the ssd and ram was working so he could buy the thing just to salvage these (I in retrospect now wonder if the board/etc still got passed onto yet someone else but i won't know anymore atm tho)
and i noticed there didn't seem to be a lot of non-watercool g5 threads on this forum so i thought i'll ask

Where you have an air-cooled G5 with working logic board, etc, fan problems can mainly be resolved by replacing heatsink compound and (ideally) subsequent recalibration of the fans by means of the available service utility.
My dual 2.3 is whisper quiet even under load.
