Newton Documentary

Hi all,

I am in video production and also a fan of almost all things Apple, I have put together a crowdfunding campaign to make a film about Newton and the people who still use it.

Almost everyone who owned one has really great feelings about it, I want to make a film about Newton and the people who "carried the fire" after it was discontinued.

Shameless self promotion, but I think if anyone would be interested it would be the people here, and if not please spread the word: newtfilm.com.

We've raised $1695 so far, and we're about halfway through the campaign.

I'd also welcome any ideas about the campaign or the final film.

Warm regards,

noah

Sounds cool to me!  I still use my Newtons (primarily MP2000) and really find it to be one of the more interesting products Apple ever made.

This movie sounds great. And most people don't know about the newton, either!

Is the campaign still running?

That's really neat. I know the indigogo has finished but do you still have some of those items if you pledged a certain amount?

I'm pretty sure its an e-reader hacked to run the Newton OS. One of the interviewees experiments. Noah knows the whole story

Yes dibenga is correct, it's a big Linux-based e-reader with a nice e-ink display running the Einstein emulator (a Newton 2.0 emulator developed primarily by Paul Guyot). It was slow on that particular device, but it shows what could be done. Of course, you get none of the charm of Apple's 90s hardware with a device like this.

That's very cool and a fitting tribute! :)     <<Needs a Newton smiley!

I recently dug out my Newton stuff and fired up the 110 and 120.

I have an original Messagepad, a 110, a 120, and a non-functional Marco.

The 110 and the 120 still work.

The Messagepad is missing the battery holder but probably works.

The Marco has never worked.

Back in the day I had the 120 on the web via the modem and NewtsCape.

It's amazing how many people, like myself, couldn't afford newtons when they were released, but wanted one so much that it was still a thrill to get one later, obsolete or not.
