Today I received a Color Classic and an Apple Techstep Diagnostic Tool!  Only had time to tinker with them for a little while.

The color classic only makes a slight power sound when plugged in, but couldnt get it to do anything else.  I removed the motherboard and except for a slight clicking sound I get nothing.  I'll be getting some caps soon to recap the boards, but I am thinking its also got problems with the analog board.  Any suggestions to start with?

From the sounds of it, the Analog Board needs a recapping at the minimum. Then when you put he logic board in, it should turn on.

Ok, so came into the shop this morning after leaving the CC plugged in all night.  Fired right up!  Has this non-power up until plugged in for a few hours problem been identified?  I would love to recap the analog board, ill need to find an AB recap kit, whose got one!

Also the screen has a few imperfections in it, namely a slightly darker area in the bottom right quadrant of the screen. Waves a little when I tap on the front of the case.

Trying to figure out of this techstep works with the CC but I dont think it supports it.

If you have the TechStep Vol 4 card, then it should work with the CC.

If tapping the case causes issues, you could have some cold solder joints - loose connections.

As for 575 boards, they seem to be made of gold and unicorn parts! lol They fetch a lot and come up rarely.

Unfortunately I do not have CPU vol 4, but I did notice that works with the CC.  Maybe one day ill find it!

interesting, I got the Color Classic working, but I just tried to put the case back together and when the back case is on the CRT will not power up correctly, but as soon as I pull the case slightly off (so the fan isnt connected) the screen turns back on.  Maybe the power supply is getting overloaded when the fan is plugged in and cannot power the screen as well?  Has anyone ever seen this problem??

it either has bad solder joints, or bad caps. or both.

probably both, I kept tinkering with it though and now its back together working fine.  I took the fan out of the back case and held it up to the connections while the back case was off and it powered up no problem without disturbing the CRT so it wasnt the fan, I think the case was just messing up bad solder joints etc... either way I put it back together again and got it together and powered up...

i would still find the time to recap and fix bad solder joints before things take a turn for the worse. Fix it while you can!

Also this may sound stupid, but make sure something isnt grounding out to the metal chassis, such as the fan for example. the 12V supply tab may be grounding out for some strange reason. 

Including your mod. Make sure the solder isnt blobbed so large its making contact with the metal undercarriage.

LOL bro you are confusing two different threads.  I haven't modded this one yet, theres another 68k'er on here who just posted about his resolution mod that I believe you are referring to. 

I am planning on recapping the motherboard for sure.  The analog board probably needs it more, but I have no idea how to go about discharging the CRT to remove the analog board.   And recapping the analog board seems like a massive job.  I'll get it done, but at what price?? we shall see!

That's usually a sign of a dead or absent PRAM battery.  Leaving it plugged in for a while lets either the battery or the PRAM startup circuitry get some charge into it.  A diagnostic step to see if this is the problem is the old double startup trick - plug it in, attempt to start it up, wait a while, then very quickly turn it off and on again.

Yeah, it is now working properly.  It has no PRAM battery, but it turns on normally now that it has been plugged in for a while.  I am going to recap the a/b and m/b when I get a chance.  Also need to calibrate the CRT because the bottom right quadrant is darker than the rest and the size of the screen is a little off.
