I am happy to report that after a couple of months of planning and research, I've managed to replace the caps in an old Classic II. I soldered the new caps on last night, plopped the logic board back in, turned it on, and it actually worked. I'm floored. (We'll see if I did a good enough job that it lasts...) Thanks Trag for the hookup with the caps. Thank you also to 68kmla for the incredible information and cool scene here. Thanks also to Jag for all the great info on his site too.
I got the machine off of Ebay about 5 years ago or so for $35.
I was a C64 and Amiga guy back in the day, and I mostly work on a Mac now, and have since system 9. I was always fascinated by these 68k Apple machines, used them here and there, but never owned one. I'm stoked to have one now.
Now to figure out a new hard drive situation. Me no think a 35MB hard drive will be quite enough for my evil plans. Uh, once I figure out my evil plans, that is. But whatever plans they'll be, it'll be more than 35MB of plans, you dig.
ROCK.
