I've always wanted to get ahold of one of these machines, not this one specifically, but the earlier classic macs, and I found one at a garage sale with a few accessories. I wanted to share what I found and ask for some help getting it all working.
System Details (As far as I know):
512k Macintosh w/a 128k motherboard modified by hand
Monster Mac processor daughter board w/RAM upgrade
Overdrive Levco SCSI Adapter
DirectDrive 70 by Jasmine External Drive
Kensington System Saver Fan
Original Keyboard and Mouse
So I ordered a System 3.2 floppy from ResuceMyMac.com, and it boots just fine! Again it's bootable, but since I just have the system floppy I cant do much with it. I've got to get other floppies at some point, but would I need an external floppy or does the system load the OS into the RAM, so I can just remove the boot disk for the applications? Also the DirectDrive seems to be as dead, the drive gets power, since it's got power out, and it's giving enough power to run the Mac, and the fuse is fine, I assume the drive inside is dead, but I haven't cracked the case open, nor will I know where I can get the drivers needed to format it if I get another drive to swap into the shell.
I'm just excited to have it, it's a wonderful piece of history, and after I used Mother's Heavy Duty Trim Cleaner, it really did remove a lot of the filth, it's not as intensive as the retrobrite method, but where I peeled off the sticker it was much lighter before hand, and after going over the case with the Mothers Cleaner it brought it to nearly the same color. I may get a scrub pad and give it another go to try and get that last bit off but for now I'm just pleased.
If anyone has any advice about how to adjust the yoke on the back (tips and such), or how to test the DirectDrive I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!
