Does anyone have any experience repairing stuck miniscribe hard drives from the SE? I would like to keep the original 20MB unit. I do not care about any data.
I found an SE with a stuck Miniscribe, and I was able to (mostly) fix it by just reaching in and wiggling the actuator for the seek motor. Not a very high-tech solution and I doubt it'll last forever, but it got the machine booting again...
I had a MiniScribe in my SE/30 (it also had an 800K floppy...must have been cobbled together). I was able to spin up the drive and boot from it after rotating the whole drive around the platter axis, until I could hear the platter spinning inside the drive just from the momentum.
