man goddam!!!! so many G5s

you guys aren't going to believe what i just got for $110 :O :O

2.7ghz G5, no hd, 2.5GB RAM (now 3.5), came with airport extreme and antenna

2ghz G5, no hd, 2GB RAM, came with airport extreme, antenna, unidentified video card w/ DVI + 3x coax, and 4x ultra320 scsi card

1.42ghz DP MDD G4, came with some insane workstation graphics card that is about a mile long, 1.5GB RAM

and a dell latitude d620 without charger or hard drive

$110!!!!!!!

i can't get over how much faster that 2.7 is than my 1.8DP G5 8-o

edit: before we get into the "why do you want a g5" argument we always have, i use these exclusively for audio production/recording where they are not only a steal for the price/power you get for audio software, but they are undeniably the best machines you can get for proprietary audio gear with drivers written for PowerPC that hasnt been updated in a decade... i'd take a G5 over an atom box any day for audio work

haha im glad you guys are all just as into this

it was CL... i'll copy the posting since links to craigslist posts always die.

it was funny, the first reply i got back was "we're trying to get rid of these things if you want to take a few..."

Up for sale today is a lot of 8 Power Mac G5 Towers. Make an offer on the lot, a few of them, or one. They can be easily picked up at our Acton, MA facility. We are starting the bidding at $80 EACH. But send us your best offer!

These G5's were some of the latest G5's Apple made. Most of them have either a Dual Core G5 or Dual G5 Processors. Many have high end graphics cards and a few have aftermarket ?audio? cards. The RAM in many of these machines is maxed out. Many have Dual Layer Super drives.

These machines have been tested and are NOT fully functional. Below is a list of each machine and the test results.

S/N: XB33702CNVA G5 1.8 Ghz, 1 GB RAM, Superdrive DVDR, G5200GFX Powers on, does not boot

S/N: XB34909TNV9 G5 1.6 Ghz, 512 MB RAM, Superdrive, G5200GFX Powers on, does not boot

S/N: G85157UDRU4 Dual 2.7 Ghz G5 Processors, No RAM, Radeon 9600, DVD-DL SD, Powers on, does not boot (no ram) damaged aluminum, no side panel (looked like someone had dropped something on it i don't even know... the handle on the back was all smashed down and the door wouldn't fit on because the metal from the handle was all pushed down, so i just keep the clear side panel on but i do have the door too)

S/N: G86114LVUV1 Dual Core 2.3Ghz G5, 2 GB RAM, GF550, SD Powers on, DOES boot, HEAVY alumnim damage, loose side panel

S/N: G8451708QPS Dual 2.5 GHz G5 Processors, No Ram, SD, No video card Does not power on

S/N: G86166CGUUZ Dual Core 2.3 Ghz G5, No Ram, DVD-DL SD, GF6600 Powers on but no ram, damaged aluminum

S/N: G8513391RU2 Dual 2.0 Ghz G5 Processors, DVD-DL SD, Radeon 9600, 2.5 GB RAM Does not power on (when i got there they had tested it and it actually booted perfectly fine - this is the one that had the ultra320 card and whatever that graphics card is... still haven't got around to checking it out)

S/N: n/a Apple Certified Recondition. . .Dual Processor, 1 GB Powers on, does not boot damaged aluminum, damaged SD front
even though they both say do not boot, when i got there we tested them to turn on and they just showed the
bzES1s.png.6e26918c9ca19e797342ec62ad9b2ec8.png
. took them home, put hard drives in them, threw on 10.5.8 and they're great!

also i have no idea what's good with these particular G5's but the light that comes on when you turn them on is the brightest red light possible. not the case with my 1.8DP

anyone in the MA area might want to go hit them up... they had a couple more G4's and the rest of those G5's when i was there. had a few beige G3's and PowerMacs but nothing I didn't already have. the people that ran the place were very chill.

@uniserver - yeah they both did that, but i didn't test any of the others they had out. i'll take a picture tomorrow.

it's an AJA Kona LSe !!!!!

(the "?audio?" card)

The Kona LSe 12-Bit PCIe Capture Card for Mac from AJA is an excellent choice for your SD capture needs for Mac. The card supports analog S-Video, component and composite video connections as well as standard definition SDI digital video connections. In addition to support for 12-bit uncompressed video, the card delivers broadcast-quality video capture and output. The card is designed for use on the Macintosh platform, making it an excellent choice for Final Cut Pro users.
but check this out-

The card supports balanced analog, AES/EBU and embedded audio I/O all at 24-bits and 48 kHz. For simplified system integration, the KONA LSe also includes hardware sample-rate conversion for AES inputs. This helps to eliminate difficulties with synchronizing audio and video.
RADICAL!!

does the fan speed go to 100%?

there is that removable inner clear plastic air dam, at the bottom where the 2 tabs go into the metal and then the top just presses / snaps in... well the rear tab has a sticker on it.. well it should... sometimes that sticker comes off, when it does it makes that red light come on and kicks the fan speeds up a ton.

oh interesting... yeah i was wondering why the fans were going so fast so quick. they seemed to come from some sort of professional environment though.

yeah last year i bought a whole pallet of g5's, i learned all their quarks really fast :)

people still pay a little for those, i sold most of the pallet for 300 each, a couple really nice ones for 400,

i had 14 of them, i think i paid like 75 each…

i was lucky, the ones i bought were pretested, and known working,

it was funny in that pallet they also threw in for free (3) MDD 1.25 DP powermac's, i sold one for 170.00 the other i sold for 200.00 to my boss here at work.

and the other i gave to my dad, well he never used it, so he brought it back to me last night, i'm in the process of installing OS922 on it :)

Here at work, we use it every day, it's our web file server, its loaded with large PDF's, they open much faster because it's on our internal 100mbit network…

a 50 60 mb pdf comes up much faster, then getting it from or webserver on a 6mbit slow DSL :)

that rules! yeah, these machines are still good for something and for how easily you can get a working one under $100 it's insane...

i'm putting a big hard drive in the 2.0ghz G5 which one of my friends wants for audio and video production,

and i'm going to sell the other 1.8DP to one of my friends who wants it for an older version of adobe CS :approve:

i might go back and get some more of their G5s and G4s again...
