Macintosh Plus times two, Powerbook 100 + other stuff

I love that adapter card and the crazy sheet metal work in that Plus. Has anyone got a shot of the stock Plus chassis for comparison . . .

. . . or can someone take a pic from the same angles for comparison?

I can't wait to see the insides of your new toy, Cosmo! :approve:

I may load Flash temporarily just to look at that tour. It sounds like Dick pulled some of his collections out to get back to the old time feel of the joint as a counterpoint to all that Ive/SJ lookin' iCandy on display in the front window. It sounds like a nice contrast from right to left. Are any of his mechanical typewriters or crazy lookin' Vacuum Tubes in evidence?

Your son did good work!
Thanks, I'll forward the comment. He went to the best genetics Uni in the country for Pre-Med/Genetics on a Fine Arts grant for a 5 year, 2 degree program. He dropped out of the Fine Arts track to concentrate on science after a year . . .

. . . but the work he did in his 3-D Design class was nothing short of amazing . . . and I'm a tough critic! [;)] ]'>

Opened both of the Pluses tonight. Both have signatures inside also. I am not experienced with electronics welding etc nor could i discharge the CRT so i didn't touch this time anything :p Will do so at work after a vacation i am having.

The better unit indeed have an HDD inside. It does look like stock plus model to me.

Will later put two 1MB RAM to the motherboard from the dead Classic i have and why not, try finding two more so could have full 4Mb. That would be nice, 4Mb RAM AND HDD!

@Trash80toHP_Mini: When forwarding the kudos on the Tekserve booth to your son, you can tell him that's my second favorite Macworld New York memory. Second only to when a gentleman in a black turtleneck and jeans with round glasses was making his way through the crowded show floor in the direction of the Apple booth made eye contact and said "excuse me" to me. I replied "no problem", as I did a bunch of times to others trying to make their way around the packed first day. By the time I realized what had happened it was already over.

That's my story of (barely) meeting and talking to Steve Jobs. I like it that way though. He looked busy and what else could I have said anyway? I'm sure he got plenty of fans wanting to tell him their life stories, tell him he's a genius, try to find out about unreleased stuff, want an autograph, etc... Better to exchange a smile and treat him like any other stranger than to act like an obsessed fanboy, right?

Sorry to go off topic, but I had to share.

You're right, your anecdote about almost meeting SJ, the polite person who looked you in the eye to say "excude me," is a much more meaningful glimpse into his character than reading about a couple of dozen fanboy encounters. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks also for your kudos for the rug-rat's efforts, I'll be sure to pass the whole story along.

Cosmo, I can't wait to see detailed pics of the ribbon cable hack on that MoBo. Yours is a much more electrically correct implementation than the one in the other picture with the 28 pin ribbon cable PCB conversion to 50 pin ribbon. There's not a 150mm section of crosstalk highway on yours. It looks as if all the proper lines (all the same length) are connected to the SCSI chipset's outbound legs.

The ground line looks like it's probably soldered to the connector shell lug. The rest of the alternate ground lines would be tied together at the tie all the HDD's inline connector's PCB pad level. I've always wondered if that's what Apple counted on when the chose that awful, SCSI spec non-compliant, DB-25 connector for the Mac.

Pics of your MoBo will make SSD conversions a snap other "Silent Mac" Hackers.

Was there a pair of SIP internal terminator blocks or a set of discrete resistors that were removed? Putting headers into those thru-holes would be the only way to make the hack more elegant that I can think of offhand.
