Macintosh IIsi internet Netscape connectivity Quark

ok so i have 3 IIsi's, they all have nic's in them.

They are all running 7.5

So the first 2 have an ok amount of ram one has 9mb then other has 17mb + 73gig 10k hard drives.

cool, and they both boot up, grab an IP … No problem… browse the web…

The third iisi, oh man this one. Its the one that has 4 megs onboard. and 4 meg's in bank b, 8 total!

This one also has a 40meg quantum drive… way too small by hey, I was lazy and it works...

anyways… this same one. with a nubus adaptor… Nubus nic card. would boot up … Grab and IP!!!!

and then once i load up netscape before it loads a webpage, it gives a network error.

go back into TCP/IP and the LEASED IP is now GONE!!!!

What the heck is going on here, I thought. So first thing, I started to question the 4 megs of ram I soldered on, maybe causing flaky issues?

checked that all out… and sure enough all the ram was soldered on flawlessly.

next i thought maybe this NIB NIC is bum…. so i swap that out with the same one.

tried it.. same thing….

so i thought maybe the Nubus adaptor could be Bum!

so i swapped it out with the another one.

tired it same thing!

re-capped both Nubus adaptors…..

nope, same.

I had to set this thing aside it was really getting to me… Hap emailed me, and I had to unload on him, letting him know of my troubles.

He said you will figure it out DOOD! hang in there… and OH by the way , I GOT A NEW POWERBOOK G4 Dual CPU 1.5ghz prototype!!! INSANE EPIC!!!

lol and sure enough it is really awesome…(I saw pictures) I'm sure he will make a post on this tomorrow.

started to work on a se superdrive, got that one all set…

stalled for a bit.. cleaning my desk,,, the whole time thinking about this WIERD IIsi and what its deal is…

so anyways, some how i ended up with it back on my desk and in the memory control panel.

and for giggles i tried to enable virtual memory.

it said no… your HD drivers are out of date, please run HDSC.

So i don't know why, but i ended up ripping out that hd and installing a 73 gigger like the rest.

booted it up, -- tons faster by the way… went to check memory, and enabled 20 megs of virtual ram.

rebooted…

i didn't even check to see if i had obtained an IP, this time, just clicked on netscape and ………

Bang! main.system7today.com pops up!!!

it works… i thought to my self…

wow 8 megs of ram must have been Jusssssssssst enough…. to open netscape. but not enough to render a webpage, and stops with the THAT error.

Virtual memory to the rescue!

I mean in the netscape message it even said something about resources.

but why would it kill my ip address lease as well??? that part, is what got me me going.

by the way i tried a lot more then just what i mentioned… also reinstalled the os… reinstalled OT, Reinstalled the NIC drivers. Tried another known working NIC from another mac.

Very strange, indeed.

Just because the extra MoBo RAM is soldered in there properly doesn't necessarily mean it's being addressed properly, especially by the MMU for paging Virtual Memory. See if you can reproduce any kind of weirdness using just the 4MB of Hacked MoBo RAM. [}:)] ]'>

nope the video was not a problem just running onboard video at 640x480 at this quark of progression.

i did naturally have VM on with the other 2 iisi macs with their big fast hd's

i think that is really why i wanted to turn VM on with this machine only because its something they had and this one didn't.

So you want me to pull the ram from bank b, run the IIsi only from the 4meg onboard + VM and see if it locks up?

I could try this.

your a wild man… but ill try it.

so keep in mind i will be booting into 7.5.5 + running Netscape and browsing websites… and running the vampirevideo, and running NIC + Nubus card… All on 4 puny megs of ram , i have soldered onboard… the paging file will be going bonkers… here goes nothing!

well it works but i am sure my 10k Hd hates you :)

but seriously it works…

with the exception of this one error i got once it was almost fully booted up.

RIPPIN[/i] up that paging file.
