Macintosh Classic II with Stylewriter II printer

Found this nice Classic II system for $ 20. Can't say that i was ever really excited about getting a Classic, but considering this was a Classic II in good shape i couldn't pass. Sure, it's no SE/30, but the additional 8 MHZ makes quite a bit of difference! And it doesn't look bad at all. It has the stock 4 MB of RAM, so i will upgrade that, and maybe swap in a larger hard drive in time as i have a 1 GB sitting around doing nothing.

What really surprised me was how much lighter this unit is say compared to an SE. They really went on the cheap with the manufacturing at this stage in the game; looks nice but the innards will be problematic no matter what based on what i've read. When i upgrade the RAM, i will also wash the motherboard and check for bad caps, and change the pram battery. The printer seems to work, just need a new ink cartridge.

Any compact I find for under $30 I snatch up. Plus, the PO included the printer! Nice find! The color looks really nice and intact.

That's a steal for $20. It's conquests like that that make me feel like I robbed the guy. Oh well. It is what it is. One man's treasure and all....

After my initial inquiry, he told me that it powered on, but nothing happened. He said you could hear it powering up, but nothing happened on screen. I think he wasn't patient enough to get by the initial gray screen! The unit was going to be thrown out by an older lady, the seller spotted it at a reno job and rescued it to pass on to someone else who could make use of it, and make a few bucks in the process. He was even so kind, he dropped it off for me as I don't have a car. This machine came quite close to meeting an early demise! It's in safe hands now!

Thats actually quite funny! When I tested my 512kE originally, it was in a bright area, and I thought the screen was dead. The guy knocked off a few bucks, and when I brought it home I found the brightness controller turned all the way down.
