yeah i got that - my question was about the quality of the video.

i was just checking you were not doing some super amazing things with video cards and such that i had not heard of before.

What are the roules of Alice - Through the Looking Glass?

I have found a version of it on the internet(where nothing happends when I click on the numbers), but don't know how to play it. :I

JamPlayer was cool, thanks for the videos. :)

Yes, Alice is in good condition (I have to take better pictures). Only the inside edges are little dirty.

You can read more about alice on www.folklore.org

http://www.folklore.org/StoryView.py?project=Macintosh&story=Alice.txt&sortOrder=Sort%20by%20Date&detail=medium&search=alice

Alice game found on internet is not complete. It is probably beta or something, because some feauters (like clicking on the numbers to open option menu with cat) doesnt work with that one.

How to play it? This is from folklore.org

The player controlled Alice and viewed the board from her perspective, facing away from the player so you only saw her from the rear.

A three digit score, rendered in a large, ornate, gothic font, appeared centered near the top of the screen, and then the game began in earnest, with opposing chess pieces suddenly leaping into the air, one at a time, in rapid succession. If you stood in one place for too long, an enemy piece would leap onto Alice's square, capturing her and ending the game.

It didn't take long to figure out that if you clicked on a square that was a legal move, Alice would leap to it, so it wasn't too hard to jump out of the way of an enemy piece. And, if you managed to leap onto the square of another piece before it could move out of the way, you knocked it out of action and were rewarded with some points. You won the game if Alice was the last one standing.

i have never actually got it running. the version i found online crashed my SE after the initial screen draw.

if the versions or Alice are incomplete as you say - do you fancy making a disk image and uploading?

it crashed, probably because you tried runing it with system 7 ?. It should run well with system 6 and under ...

I can exchange for something rare as this is ...

my suggest list;

- 1984 Intro presentation

- Macintosh Basics (B&W ver.)

- ...

Wowie Kazowie ! lol

A topic on what I think is one of the greatest games of all time !

The twitchiness of an arcadegame combined with the depth of chess.

2 completely polar opposite notions combined !

Genius !

And it deserves it's place in history as the first piece of "Golden Age" -- 16-bit -- entertainment software.

Absolutely superb videos, SloMacUser !

I've always wanted someone to make "System 6-SoftWare-In-Action" videos.

And do ya have any idea how far & wide I've been positively salivating for a copy of "Alice - Through The Looking Glass" ? lol

:b&w:

i dont want your copy of alice - just that you said you felt that the other versions on the net were incomplete.

so all i was asking was if a disk image would be possible, so we can all see the differences you are talking about.

I am talking about disk image ;) there is no big diference only in that option menu try to run it with some old system software like System 1.1 Finder 1.1g or something

you want me to give you something for a disk image?

erm.. i guess its ok then. i will try a version from online and elsewhere.

you want me to share an item, that is right know selling on eBay for 100 $ for free? you got 7 hours to bid so be quick and you can share image of it than

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Apple-Software-ALICE-Through-the-Looking-Glass_W0QQitemZ270155405399QQihZ017QQcategoryZ51046QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I can share mine but, I'd like something for that too, from the list or give me som yours. If everbody would be so nice and share their items, I wouldn't be looking for that what I wrote in my previos list and I would share my items for sure too ...

i was generally assuming that everyone here did share all their software (68k) if they had it.

Everything i have is on my ftp server 4gig of old mac stuff - open for anyone to wander by if they wish.

most others do a similar thing - the ebay auction is not for the game, but for the whole package namely the box and manual/paper.

but saying that - the software is yours and you are of course free to do with it as you wish.

Thanks, and thanks for the image. :D

I' ll try it soon.

If you want to play it on system 7 or newer you have to have(or make) some sort of app that starts alice and quit finder, then it might work. (if you are lucky, it is depending on some other things)
