Mac SE with LaCie drive that is locked

Hello,

I picked up a Mac SE with a working hard drive. It won't boot since there seems to be a problem with the system folder. But I can verify the disk isn't damaged. I want to format the hard drive but it is locked. How can I force it to format? When I try to google this I get solutions for newer macs.

Ok, tried Lido before posting and the drive just kept disappearing. Gave it another try and this time I was able to format it. Sorry carry on.
