Mac Plus sees external HD, but won't boot from it

ZOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 8-o Would you believe this:

I'd pretty much given up, after getting to the point where the 40MB drive would eternally redraw the "Welcome to Macintosh" screen at bootup.

Then today's mail came. And in the mail was a box of six Mac motherboards I bought from eBay. And as I was looking at some of the Mac Plus motherboards, I remembered once hearing something about a SCSI related ROM bug on the Plus. According to Wikipedia, "the second revision fixed a problem with some SCSI devices that could send the Mac into an endless reset at startup." So I checked, and my Plus has rev-B ROMs. I swapped those out for rev-C ROMs from one of the newly-arrived boards, and: CHA-CHING! Bootup!

I've only tried the 40MB drive so far. I'm a little afraid to press my luck with the 800MB and 1GB drives at this point!
