A few day's ago i got my first ever classic mac. :beige:

Everything worked fine and okay until the display started flickering and i resolderd J4.

But know my mouse doesn't move, i can click but not move.

could i have caused this and how do i fix this.

It's my first ever classic mac, and i still need to find a lot of parts for the mac plus.

I bought an scsi zipdrive on ebay, but i was sent an LPT one.

I also bought 4 mb of ram, and i have an pb g3 wallstreet for data transfer, so good times.

and a big hi from the netherlands

Have you tried removing the ball of the mouse and cleaning the rolls ?

With the ball removed, you can move the rolls with your fingers: this should move the cursor if the mouse is not broken.

To make sure: check for bend pins on the mouse connector and clean them with Isopropyl alcohol.

The movement of the mouse has nothing to do with the connector you resoldered on the Analog board, it's just a coincidence.

There's not a lot that can go broke with the mouses.

If nothing from above helps, you'll have to open the mouse and test the cable; it can be a wroken wire in the cable.

Greetings from Belgium :)

I saw that the cable connector only has 8 pins instead of 9, is this normal ?

Also thanks for the help nvdeynde

That's normal: the connector has 5 pins on the 1st row and 3 on the 2nd.

What version of the Mac Plus do you have: the Beige or Platinum model ?

I have a few spare brand new original Platinum mouses I bought a while ago.

i think if you look closer you might have created a solder bridge/short some where, take it back apart and inspect it, grab a tooth brush and give it a scrub while its out.

If he created a short, it must be on the logic board. He resoldered the J4 socket on the Analog board, which is far away from the mouse connector.

The only thing I can think of is a power issue: if the mouse gets no power, then it won't move where the clicker is just a contact that needs no power to operate.

Do you measure 5 volts between pins 1 and 2 ?

Without replacement parts issues like this are very hard to troubleshoot. If you had another 128K/512K/Plus logic board or mouse, the cause would have been easy to find.

If the mouse gets power and doesn't work, then the mouse''s PCB if faulty or the VIA on the logic board that processes the mouse's signals.

The mouse get's power from the mac 4.9v. Checked the wiring again still good.

Checked my soldering also fine, i'm going to try to hook up the mouse to an arduino and try to test it that way. As i don't have a spare mouse or a spare mac.
