Mac OS 10.4 Install DVD not recognized in boot menu on PowerMac G4 MDD

I have a PowerMac G4 MDD with Leopard currently installed. I'm trying to downgrade to Tiger by booting the install DVD. I have burned three copies of the DVD. All of the DVDs are recognized in the Leopard install, but going to the boot menu shows the HDD but not the DVD, any of the three I booted. Holding "C" on boot to try to make it boot the DVD just makes it boot into the existing Leopard install. How can I fix this? Does the firmware not want to recognize the DVD because I already have a newer Mac OS install?

Maybe it hasn't worked. The installer keeps saying something went wrong. I'm burning another DVD right now with the same installer to see if that one was bad.

Burning the DVD again fixed it! Thanks again.

Likely a few things

1. The other image lacks the proper boot sectors on the ISO image for booting.
2. Your DVD blanks aren't good quality.
3. Your burner is maybe going too fast or too slow to burn them well.

All 3 could be factors here. Glad you got it working.
