Upcoming conquest alert--Mac LC II coming my way on Tuesday.

The seller knows absolutely nothing about the setup and I don't believe he's tested it (I do have enough parts to get it going again if need be). From the Craigslist picture, it looks as though it has two external drives of some sort. There's also a 12" Apple RGB, which is something I've been trying to source locally for a while now (love the smaller size and low resolution since my educational programs won't be windowed). The only thing it doesn't come with is a keyboard and mouse, but I have enough parts Macs laying around that I should be able to take those from one of them.

More details to follow. He said there was a second monitor too and described it as "see-through". I'm crossing my fingers and hoping it's actually an iMac G3.

I'd say there's a good chance of the "see through" monitor being a Studio Display of some sort.

My guess is also a Cinema Display of some sort--I think they used DIamondtron technology if I'm not mistaken. However, if it's an iMac instead, I'll have reason to celebrate.

Just got the lot. Here's what I got (nothing tested yet, no pics yet):

Mac LC II with matching 12" Apple RGB. Big news--it has an Apple IIe card. Better news--it has the Y-cable.

Mystery Monitor is a 17" Apple Studio Display, ADC connector CRT display. I currently have nothing to use it on :-/

Now for the really good part...it came with the following:

--TWO external SCSI hard drives (this has been a good year for me with these; I'm up to four on the year now)

--External SCSI CD-ROM drive

--Fax Modem

--Cables

The only things missing are a keyboard and mouse, and I'm probably going to just take those from one of the gimpy Classics in the closet.

All of this cost me $40. Not bad for this haul. I may sell the monitor unless I source a cheap G4 to use with it.

Well, the testing is going to have to wait a day or two...got backed up with correspondence to clients tonight...

Volvo--thanks for the heads up on the adapter! Might as well do something to get that Quadra 700 on its feet again with a good monitor.

I tested the computer today. The results were not good.

The LC has a clicking PSU. I have extras though and can replace it.

The monitor may be problematic. The raster came up looking distorted and too bright (especially for having no image).

I do have a cosmetically poor 12" RGB in great working shape I could swap.

Hard drives get tested tonight after work is done.

Dont forget the monitor! it needs recapped by now as well. My old 1994 25" Tube TV which is in my bedroom is starting to show signs of bad caps. but it is 20 years old and I had it since new as a kid. Still works perfect, and shows a picture as bright and vibrant as it was new, no bleeding and no fuzzyness or uneven focus. lol. I had to fix it once though, This was back when Magnavox had a good CRT.

Techknight--I get the feeling these 12" RGBs succumb to bad caps easily. I've got another one with terrible focus issues and I was thinking the same thing could be true there. I'll have to do a little playing around with it sometime to figure out where the suspect caps are. Nobody seems to have diagrammed Apple's monitors as they did the computers, so once I get a chance I'll go for it. This will likely be in late December when I give the kids (and myself) a week-long holiday.

UPDATE: One of the hard drives works. The other...well, let's just say it's a transplant candidate with a nice doorstop inside.

if its a quantum that spins up and right back down, its fixable!

Also on the CRT, poor focus is 2 things. Low focus voltage thats a result of = Low HV. or, bad/misadjusted flyback.
