Last Game/Application Made for Mac OS 9

Out of curiosity, does anyone know what the last Commercial Game/Application made for OS 9 was? I'm wondering when OS9 really breathed its last breath.

I'm not sure what the very last app was, but I know some vendors were still making OS 9 software through mid-2004.

Interesting question!

Warcraft 3 expansion The Frozen Throne is fairly late at 2003. I remember having to boot into OS 9 to get better speeds out of the game, since OS X was still very slow at almost everything at that time.

TurboTax 2004 supported Mac OS 9. This would be the version you purchase in 2005 to do your 2004 taxes with.

I remember my mom doing her taxes using TurboTax 2003 (in 2004) on her Power Macintosh 6500.

I don´t think that OS 9 is dead. At some special tasks it´s still in use/under developement. For example:

"Nonio C" (a program for modeling large topographic and cartographic survey, over $1000) the recent version 9.2 is also availaible for Mac OS 9.2

Oligo (a multi-functional program that searches for and selects oligonucleotides from a sequence file for polymerase chain reaction (PCR), DNA sequencing, site-directed mutagenesis, and various hybridization applications - $1200) recent version 6.89 from 2008 also availaible for OS 9

Some DTP, Audio and CAD Software from 2006 & 2007 is still at the resellers, and don´t forget "Shareware" like Graphicconverter which is still under developement.

For curiosity: Adobe is still selling Pagemaker 7 (from 2002) for MacOS 9 - just $499 ;)

What's the last software to be released for OS 9 that came in a box you could buy at the store

There will always be some kind of freeware or shareware out there still being developed. Just look at nearly every other computer platform and you will see some kind of recent development.

I read somewhere recently that Apple is still using Adobe FrameMaker 7 under MacOS9 to produce the printed and PDF manuals that accompany its newest bazillion GHz Intel Macs and assorted gizmos. FrameMaker is, after all, the best tool for the job, works perfectly under 9, and as it isn't ever going to be developed for OSX, what's a Jobs to do?

He'll probably say that it's running under Classic - one of the many great features of Mac OS X *

(* no longer available on the latest bazillion GHz Intel Mac models)
