Is this an upgraded SE motherboard? [pics]

Hi Guys,

Here's the situation:

The machine doesn't boot from the hard drive. It gets a [?] disk.

Since the only bootable floppy I have is a "Disk Tools" disk with System 7.0.1, I tried booting from that. It gets a :) and boots up fine.

I tried using the Disk Tools to somehow put a working System on the hard drive. Unfortunately, the tools are not able to detect the hard drive.

I decided to crack open the case to see what was going on inside.

Everything seemed very tight compared to my Plus, it was hard to physically get at the cables to disconnect them and slide out the motherboard.

When I got the motherboard out, here's what it looked like:

Can anyone shed some light on what I'm looking at? It seems as if this has been upgraded somehow?

And does anyone have any direction on how to make this machine boot from the hard drive? (Hard drive visually looks OK.)

Well, it's an upgrade of some kind. There were many different brands back in the day, long, long, ago. Clearly, it upgrades the SE to a 33 MHz 68030. It looks like there's a socket for an FPU, but none installed, and there are some chips which might be VRAM, implying a video out capability, but they might be some kind of cache instead, I suppose.

Perhaps someone will happen along who is familiar with this specific model of upgrade.

If memory serves, that looks like the Gemini Upgrade Card, known by other names, Gemini might be the one Total Systems used, dunno. Somebody here posted info including pics and the name of the OEM. A friend had one back in the day, the extra is addressed as VM under Compact Virtual, IIRC.

Odd SE/30 card?

Quesse Total Systems PDS accelerator for SE

Quesse, that's it! Check for that brand name or any other etched verbiage, likely on the solder side of the board.

I have a pile of SE accelerators that someone gave me and that looks like the one I have installed in one of my SEs. The Connectix software covers all of the old accelerators. I downloaded somewhere off he Internet and it allows more ram, those slots are more memory, it's pretty cool. Almost makes it an SE 30 without the badge of course.
