Is my Apple III dead?

Ah, I found this:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/171865145019

The guy probably have done most of the research work for me on the required CAPs. I've contacted him/her to confirm a few things. In the diagram, I counted around 27 caps, while the kit contains around 20 from what can see.

Please share what he has to say. I've got at least one /// that needs this same recap.

I also have a ///+ and I need to figure out what differences there are in power supplies between that and a "regular" ///. I've seen some statements that the ///+ supply was different.

Here's what he had to say about my question:

The capacitor kit is to replace all of the electrolytic and RFI filter caps as these are the ones that typically age and fail. The "bad smell" is typically caused by the filter caps. They quite often also let out a huge puff of smoke when they go as well. On the schematic you provided, be sure to only count the capacitors with the + next to them as those are the electrolytics.
In my research I found a lot of references about the MB of the III and III+ being different, but I have not seen anything that would show the PS could have been changed. The best way to know would be to remove the PS from each unit and compare them side by side.
That said I remember listening to the DROP-III-INCHES podcast and in the latest episodes one of the host is talking about some of the differences between the 2 models as he was testing the multiple units he have. It was in the first section of the podcast if you don't want to listen to the whole episode or the Phase III conference recording.

I received the new caps today, and the recapping job as started. I replaced 4 this evening already. See the picture.

The cap in the second pic it clearly burn out completely. It is cracked badly.

I think it was Uniserver on this forum who recommended me to buy a $150 soldering station off eBay. I want to thank him, it is really amazing to work with this. I still have to learn a few tricks, but that was a good buying recommendation.

Hi-

As a new - and deliriously happy ;) owner of Apple /// (s/n 19971), I am just in the middle 'rejuvenation' of its Astec AA11190 PSU. I planned to change its RIFA 'X' caps only but after reading your post, I decided to install all 20 caps most prone to failures. Unfortunately, the caps kit for Apple /// is no longer listed at ebay and I couldn't locate its author...

Is it possible for you to list here all the 20 capacitators (and their basic specs, e.g. capacitance/max. voltage/ESR/temp.) you changed in your machine.

It would be a great help for me! :)

Many thanks in advance!

-Jerzy
