iPhone 3G :)

I got to the Apple store at 3:46 expecting to be out in an hour. Oh, hoho, no! I was outside the apple store, for 4 hours, moving a total of 200 feet. Once inside the store, i waited an additional 1/2 hour for a cashier. Finally the buying process/activation took 22 minutes, much quicker than expected. BUT the end result was good. I'm the proud owner of a 8GB iPhone 3G :) Very happy :) SO far 3G is fast, my legs are in excruciating pain, the screen is awesome, I have no prospects on that wonderful 8GB iPod touch, and the SIM ejector tool is pretty cool :p Not bad for 4 hours, 52 minutes :))

Were you at the Easton store? I wasn't but just curious -- I worked seasonal cashier there a few years ago, basically taking iPods out of drawers and swiping credit cards for Christmas... :p

No I was at the legacy village one. I really like it a lot.

And macintoshman, it's the same plan cost as any other 3G phone so I don't really care.

See, I might sell my 8GB iPod Touch and get 1st gen iPhone. The things I care about are in the OS which is available for that phone as well.

I wont pay for a 3G phone right now as the prices are ridiculous.

At least two people at my office were hoping to get an iPhone yesterday, but the nearby ATT store sold out early.

Which slightly delays my own plans to buy one of their first-gen iPhones which I was hoping to use with my T-Mobile prepaid ($100/year)

Mm, they were sold out at all the local ATT stores very soon, before I woke up at 10 :p Once we were there the manager told us that were probably not get an 16GB, and might get a 8GB. Armed only with that info, we waited. Eventually 5 people in front of us left. About two hours later a truck dropped off more iPhones, so I think just about everyone who wanted 8GBs got em, but they sold out of 16GBs shortly after I bought my 8GB. One thing I noticed was that every single employee was very nice, and they were running and getting food/water for people who were by themselves. Then the manager got a few big boxes of SmartWater, and handed them out for free.

I will be getting one of these as soon as I get back from summer camp next week. I walked in and played with a black 8gb one. I tested out the app store, messed with the GPS, and started a secure wipe :D

I looked at the white one, it's really nice. web photos can't do it justice. I am now torn. It's odd, with them changing from having a white iPod Classic to a silver one, they should have had that color, which would have been sweet.

Gonna check the prices on first gen iPhones too, might spring for a refurb if I can find one.

-digital ;)

The 3G iPhone is only $199, and I haven't actually looked for 1st Gen iPhones prices, but I don't expect them to be much cheaper.
It's $199 and $299 with a 2 year contract. And when you total out the amount you pay with the contract, it ends up being a lot more.

Consider that by itself, it's priced at $599 and $699. So no, it's not that cheap. It's the plan that's subsidizing most the cost of the phone.

I bought mine Saturday, started waiting in line (Apple Store Washington Square: Portland, OR) at about 5:00p, walked out at just past 6:00.

A friend who got in line at 7:30am on Friday at the 'trendier' Apple Store (Bridgeport Village, Portland, OR) wasn't out until after 1:00pm.

Today, the AT&T Store at the same trendy mall had a line of 30-ish people when they opened at 10:00am. (We were there for a movie.) Didn't walk by the Apple Store. (The Apple Store also opened earlier.) The line was gone when our movie was out. But they were also out of iPhones by then.

And since AT&T charge an extra $10/month for 3G data than they did with the original iPhone, you actually end up paying more over the 2-year period than before... even though you seem to be getting the hardware for cheaper [xx(] ]'>

Comparatively, we've got a pretty sweet deal with O2 in the UK. The plans come in at the same prices as before and the handset is down from £269/£329 to £99/£159 with the cheaper contracts and free if you take out one of the more expensive ones!

Bah, it's the same price for any other 3G phone on ATT. In a few days after it's all died down I think I'm going to exchange it for a white 16GB, there's no restocking fee because they made you open the iPhone in the store.

That is true about the price without a plan, but Jobs made it sound like it was SO much cheaper than the previous model during the WWDC keynote.
