I've been thinking about this idea for a while - in fact I had written quite a lot of code for it - but I want to make sure there is at least some interest before I spend even more time and effort on it.
Would you be interested in a 'walled-garden' AOL/eWorld/CompuServe/Prodigy/etc. like service?
The goal is "domost some of what you can do on the web using a modern computer, except banking and videos"
The EC2/RDS/SMS instances and all those APIs would cost a lot of money so it would probably cost ~$2-4/mo, though.

- Chatrooms
- IM
- e-Mail (perhaps internal only, though - not sure yet)
- Message Boards
- Have services you can use cross-platform, like:
- Online Drive (Web + client access)
- Web e-Mail
- Have plenty of API-provided content like:
- Weather
- Stocks
- Currency Exchange Rates
- News (headlines only, maybe?)
- Recipes
- Whatever else I can find!
- Have interactive features like:
- Games (singleplayer w/ leaderboards)
- Of course, think Tetris/Backgammon/Reversi, not Fortnite
