Installing a new HDD in a IIci

Hey Guys,

I've been away from the 68K macs for a looooong time. I picked up a IIci and got a great deal on a 24bit nubus video card on ebay, Rasterops for $35! I've been trying to install a hard drive on this machine. I have Silverlining, which is confusing as heck to me. I guess the 4GB drive needs to be partitioned, what is max size of a HFS partition? Is there a better tool I can use for partitioning and initializing the drive?

I have heard that Silverlining works pretty well, although I have never tried it. I was always partial to Alliance Power Tools from APS Tech. And, of course, there's FWB Hard Disk Tool Kit.

Partition your drive in 2 GB or smaller volumes.

It worked! I just made the two partitions *exactly* 2GB. Initialised the drive and now installing 7.5! Thanks guys... It's a nice Iici, came with a bad cache card, one of the caps is bad, leaked some fluid. Took the cache card out and the machine quit crashing!

Well, if you can solder at all, you should be able to replace the caps on that cache card. I think I have the needed value on hand. Someone else requested them in the last few years, and I picked up a small supply. See my capacitors stickied over in Trading Post.

Re-capping the cache card is simple enough if the corrosion is not too extensive, the value is not critical. There is info in another thread about doing it yourself, or if you'd like, I can re-cap it with dry tantalum capacitors that will never leak for $10+ return postage.
