iMac (I think)

A friend of a friend called me wanting to know if I wanted a Bondi iMac. I think it's a B/W G3, but she said it had no handles but two hard drives. ??? 8-o

I'm supposed to pick it up this evening along with a computer desk and possibly an older PC. If it's an iMac, it will be the same type that I bought new back in 1998.

I know that - it was my first new Mac. I'm not sure how much Mac experience she has, so Bondi may mean something else to her. I do know she is currently using a newer Mac though.

I'm sure whatever it is will be nice for tinkering, or possibly restoring back to what I used to have - complete with Virtual PC version 2 and Connectix Game Station.

Only 5 1/2 hours to go! :D

Well, it's home!

Rev B iMac, 288MB (256MB/32MB), 20 GB hard disk, 6 MB VRAM running 10.2.8. The two hard drives comment came from the two disk icons on the desktop. It was split into two partitions to install MacOS X.

I also got a white Apple USB keyboard and Apple white optical one-button mouse, several program CDs (mostly Print Shop and its brethren) and Adobe PhotoDeluxe version 2. There's also a small computer desk in the back of the truck, but I need to fix the keyboard tray on it in order for it to be useful again.

For the most part it looks OK, but it appeared that the Apple logo on top was glued back into place and a fair amount of glue dried on top of the unit. The keyboard has some stuff in it, but I have seen worse.

I wiped it last night, installed 9.2.2 and Virtual Game Machine and connected my Gravis GamePad Pro USB joystick. Good times with Metal Gear Solid, not so good times with Raiden DX.

Lives in a game should not be measured in fractions of a second. > :( If the joystick weren't so well built I would have broken it and threw it across the room. :beige:

Metal Gear Solid?!?!

Just a heads up that you have to be careful with the partitioning on the early iMacs. Due to a ROM limitation, they'll only recognise a System Folder that is physically within the first 6GB (IIRC, it could be 8GB or some value around that) of the hard disk. Hence why the disk is usually partitioned whenever a larger disk is installed. It should be fine as long as you wipe the disk completely and then install a clean version of the OS, but if you ever reinstall on top of the current installation you may just get a flashing question mark at start up. You can either get around it by partitioning the disk in to a small boot partition and a larger data partition, or keep a copy of Norton Utilities on hand. Defraging the disk with Norton puts all the system files at the start of the disk, hence fixing the problem. I've been running a Rev. C iMac from a single 40GB partition for some time without any problems, though I had to defrag it when I first copied all the data from the original 6GB drive and upgraded to OS 9. I would guess that any OS updates might cause problems if they re-create the System file or the soft-ROM file – but I can't see any of them being released in the future [;)] ]'>

Metal Gear Solid?!?!
My Mom gave me a Playstation that she found at a local thrift store. It had the Greatest Hits version of Metal Gear Solid, Animorphs and a game I forget the title of for the PS2. I have a power cord and AV cable, but no controller to test it. The circuit board behind the left controller was pushed in so I don't know if it will work or not.

Metal Gear Solid works on Virtual Game Station, Animorphs does not. When I had my first iMac I also owned Parasite Eve. That was GOOD! :) Makes me wish I still had that game - never did finish it.
