IIe slot assignments

While sorting out another issue, it clicked on me that I couldn't use my ram expansion in slot 3 while the 80 column card is in....or...I can??

Okay, here's my inventory

-Pro Grappler

-Super Serial

-Apple Memory Expansion

-Mouse card

-Duo Disk

-Enhanced SCSI

-Workstation card

-Premium Softcard //e (aux. slot 80 column/Z80 card)

Off the top of my head, the slots can be filled as follows:

1 - Pro Grappler

2 -

3 - ????

4 - Mouse

5 -

6 - DuoDisk

7 -

AUX - Premium Softcard

That I'm aware of the SCSI card, the workstation card, memory and the SSC can go just about anywhere but the DuoDisk needs to be slot 6, grappler in slot 1 and the mouse needs slot 4. With the softcard installed 80 column maps to slot 3 and this is my problem. I don't have enough slots. Supposedly you can still put some cards in slot 3 and it won't conflict but nobody wants to tell which god damn cards those are. It's possible I can replace the SSC with the workstation card but again, NOBODY wants to say if the workstation card emulates the SSC or not.

Accelerators, like the TransWarp are ok in slot 3.

The more elegant solution, instead of using the Apple Memory Expansion card, would be to go the route I did and get a RAMWorks II or III. That does mean you'd have to use a regular SoftCard and swap it out with either the SCSI or the Workstation card.

Currently:

Aux. Slot: 1MB RWII

Slot 1: Grappler+

Slot 2: SSC

Slot 3: empty

Slot 4: Mouse interface card

Slot 5: UDC, controlling an Apple 3.5 Drive

Slot 6: 5.25 disk interface card, controlling a DuoDisk (the other one of the two I got in last year's conquest)

Slot 7: Microsoft SoftCard (or sometimes an AE TimeMaster II H.O.)

Very few cards work in slot 3 if you have an Aux slot card. The Apple memory card being among those that won’t. A PCPI Applicard will.

If you can acquire two more cards, I’d suggest:

1 - Pro Grappler

2 - Super Serial

3 – PCPI Aplicard

4 - Mouse

5 - Workstation card

6 - DuoDisk

7 - SCSI

AUX – RamWorks

A RamWorks and Applicard shouldn't be hard to find. Otherwise you need to give up a card

Ramworks cards cost a fortune.

Well if the Workstation card's serial port is "compatible" enough I can leave out the SSC and repurpose it in my II+

Workstation card costs considerably more than an SSC. Unless you're bend on setting up AppleTalk in the house and booting your system diskless, I don't see a reason of keeping one in ANY box. You'll need to quantify what constitutes "a fortune," as most RAMWorks cards I've seen are quite economical.

I think my original RWII was about $25 or so. Granted, this was pre-SJisDead Syndrome era. My current one came in a //e that I bought for $25 off the A2-web classifieds from someone in Chilliwack, BC.

This one isn't as cheap, but, considering how it is the SJisDead Syndrome era, is still reasonable.

Cards that do not use the slot's RAM allocation (just I/O) will work in slot 3. The Uthernet is another card that works in that slot.
