So I have two 9.1 update CDs, one dated 1999 the other 2000. One works on my 8500, the other doesn't not. Doesn't anyone know what's going on? As I'm lost.

Would it be something as simple as the localisation?
One is for North America and the other is International English (marked with a Z in the product code).
If I remember correctly, if you have installed your Mac OS with one, it won't accept the other.
If one of the CDs is a copy, then it might not boot / upgrade anyway. I have yet figured out why some burned CDs boot and some don't.
Is it the medium, the way the original CD was imaged or simply some form of copy protection (or all 3)?

I'm wondering if one is a universal and one is from an old iMac. I've had a few systems over the years and lost track.

I should have asked you in my first post - what are the product numbers on the CD? Better still, if you could post the scans/photos of the CDs, you could be given a definitive answer.

One might be for a G3. I think the iMac ones looked different, but Im assuming all the beige Power Macs had the same CD.
Don't the upgrade disks say 'upgrade' on them somewhere?
