The more stuff I buy "as is," with "unidentified problems" that "can't be tested" arrives fit a a friggin' fiddle . . . [:(] ]'>

. . . now I feel bad about hacking this beautiful 12" RGB POS!

It was supposed to be a 1400c/G3 AIO (with the NuBus Chipset grafted on and Cards Inside) . . .

. . . now it's just another CRT . . . :p

. . . unless! }:)

I always assume that "untested" means "dead", and anything arriving working is a bonus.

1400c/G3 AIO (with the NuBus Chipset grafted on and Cards Inside)
When you posted this thought elsewhere, I must admit I thought the idea of a monitor shell for the mounting was an odd choice. Why not a dead/gutted Duo Dock, or 2/3 slot Nubus desktop?

In fact, as what you're basically proposing is adding a Docking connector and associated chipset to a 1400 (which, btw, I heartily endorse), why not a working Duo Dock, stripped of the Duo-form-factor-specific mountings?

ps, shall we change the thread title now? :o)

 Nope, then we'd need to move it to hacks!

The 12" RGB/Grayscale CRT Case is the obvious choice for this hack. It's roomy, the depth and height are perfect for stacking the NuBus Chipset Adapter Card and three 12" NuBus Cards above the 270 degree flipped back 1400 MoBo, and the opening is a near perfect fit for the 800 x 600 LCD Graft.

Consider the fact that it sits perfectly atop just about any case you mentioned, plus the "Snow White" LCIII case I need to procure in order to hold it at a jaunty angle and act as an I/O expansion chassis. The FPD/TPD or LCD Monitor sitting next to it would be A/B/C KVM switched as the primary display for whatever Mac or DuoDock I put under it.

That'd be if I forgo the LCIII I/O hack plans and run the alternate Base Unit's KVM switched primary display off one of my RedRadiusPixelRockets installed in one of the three NuBus Slots of the 1400cG3/NB/RGB™ hack.

Besides, the Duo angle is already in the works for the DuoDock III™ hack! }:)

Ah OK, so the plan is that the guts of the 1400 live inside the hack-chassis, rather than being a removable, whole 1400 that docks - which is what I was envisioning. Have you considered that approach? Basically, adding the necessary Duo parts to a 1400 to make it into a Dockable. Maybe for Mk.II?

Check your PMs and post the exchange here . . . might as well move this over to hacks. I'll think of some new title in the meantime.
