Icab and unimplemented trap error

I'm running a classic 2 with 10mb of ram and system 7.01. I've installed thread manager and drag and drop extensions also.

I can't seem to get icab to work. When I enter a web address into the browser and click enter I get an immediate unimplemented trap error. I tried both the latest version for 68k macs which is 2.99 and a few older versions. Same error.

Any ideas how to get it running? Will switching to 7.5.5 help?

Have you confirmed that you have internet connectivity? Can you use Telnet? Can you ping external hosts? Have you tried Netscape 1.1, the easiest Mac browser to get going?

Yes I have internet connectivity and can use netscape 1 macweb and wannabee (which works well because no images). I was hoping to use icab because it is the most modern and will hopefully display the sites the most correctly. I'm using MacTCP to connect.

Edit: Editing Post from within Netscape 2.02 which gives me access to most sites as long as I turn javascript off.

Have you got QuickTime 2.5 installed? It supports Component Manager which you might be missing.

For your config, do not go to System 7.5.5. If you can't get 7.0.x running, recreate your system using 7.1 plus patches.

Well Quicktime 2.5 got me past the unimplemented trap error. However, when I enter the web address and press enter nothing happens. No error, but the browser doesn't go anywhere.

I'm guessing icab doesn't see my mactcp connection which is really strange. All of my other internet programs (netscape, ircle etc) have been able to connect fine.

I think if I want icab to work I will need 7.1, it may just need Open Transport. Will I lose any of the speed of 7.0.1 by going to 7.1?

Will I lose any of the speed of 7.0.1 by going to 7.1?
I don't think so. To my understanding, 7.1 is basically a bugfix releasee of 7.0.x, and as such should perform about the same. It might be a little more demanding on the RAM, but that's probably because it adds a few new features (I think 7.1.x introduced systemwide AppleScript, and the System Folder included the Fonts folder for the first time, rather than stuffing them inside the System file itself).
Someone chime in if I'm wrong about anything!

Thanks for all the help. I tried icab in basilisk 2 and noticed the page formatting was the same as Netscape 2.02 so I'm going to stick with Netscape.

So if anyone finds this thread and has the same unimplemented trap error in icab 2.99 68k, installing Quick Time 2.5 solves it but you may still have issues connecting to the net unless your on 7.1 or 7.55. I would definitely recommend Netscape 2.02 if you want images (and to check email) or wannabee for no images and faster speed.

System 7.1 is more than a bug fix. It implements WorldScript to support non-Roman Languages etc. Most of the changes are below the surface.

I'm not sure what functionality is missing for iCab. I'd have a look at adding AppleScript 1.1, Object Support Lib 1.2 and CFM-68K.
