Today I got in an Ibook G3 -500 to play with from ebay.
Seller said it worked but the trackpad/mouse didn't function and you needed an external mouse. Since the thing looked to be in good condition and I figured somebody was mucking around inside with the HD or RAM they disconnected the trackpad cable. Started taking it apart and found that the trackpad was disconnected, the plug was ripped from the motherboard (crappy soldering)! So I had to take the whole thing apart because you cant get to the board traces and after a couple hours ripping it apart , soldering, re-assembly plus a RAM upgrade (512MB PC133) I now have a working Ibook G3 plus a couple spare screws (Meh).
The unit came with a 20GB HD and I just left it in figuring I would wipe OSX 10.4.11 it came with and go with OS 9.2.2.
Hopefully the battery will charge.
