I would open the thing up and make a list of parts and their location then look for replacements. With an optical drive make sure whatever you get will clear the other parts or you will have issues.
One of my IBM PS/2 machines (model 30 286) had a hard drive with aluminum analytics that leaked all over the controller board under the drive. After a cleaning an a bunch of new caps it works just fine. I did use different style capacitors because of availability and had to make sure they all cleared obstructions. Fixed some PS/2 floppies same way.
