Hotline Connect (casually referred to as Hotline) was a multi-purpose internet communications product released in 1997 by Adam Hinkley (also known as "Hinks"). It is no longer being produced. The protocol utilized a client/server model of networking, combining chat, news, and file transfer capabilities into one product. In its peak of usage, Hotline was notorious for the exchange of warez and porn. The Hotline network eventually died out.
It does still live on in some uses, as you can see. Because of it's low popularity, networks such as the 68k Hotline Server can easy be used without being hit by thousands of bots, unwanted users and spammers. It also feels complete, a community in one server.
I always hoped there would always be at least one hotline server still around, because basically, it's better than internet in some cases.
