HFV Explorer with USB Floppy on Windows 7?

I'm having some trouble using HFV Explorer with my USB floppy drive on Windows 7. I can see the files on mac disks okay, but when I try to read or write a disk image, it errors out. Even formatting disks it errors out. The drive works fine in Windows otherwise. I also tried MacDisk and TransMac 4.2 and had similar problems. I remember 15 years ago I used to use TransMac with Windows XP with a built in floppy drive to make floppies for my macs, and it worked just fine. These days, I'm not sure what to do to make new floppies from Windows. Could it be my USB floppy drive that is the problem? It's a generic 27L4226 USB floppy drive. Is there a different type that might work better with HFV Explorer? Any help is appreciated.

As a workaround: can you make a disk image using your USB floppy drive, edit that using HFV Explorer, then write it back to the disk?

An update for anyone who comes across this later. It turned out the USB drive was indeed the culpruit. Everything works great with an internal floppy drive on my Windows 7 system, and I can now move files back and forth with the Mac using TransMac without any issue. I guess this particular USB floppy drive just doesn't do well with writing HFS, or with whatever means these programs use to write HFS.
