Hello everyone

Hello, I'm a forum lurker, so don't expect much posts from me, although I will be lurking around this forum for a while (probably until my sudden desire for a mac disappears, but that won't happen for a while) and of course, if the thread intrests me enough, I'll make a post.

Now let's tell a quick story about my life with macs:

I've never really owned a mac, parents are pc people, and the last mac I used was the iMac G3 (and before that the power mac g3) at my elementary school 6 years ago in Vancouver, British Columbia. Now fast foward 5.8 years to Markham, Ontario, one day in computer class, while developing a text adventure for my final project (which I have to admit was really horrible, although I got a good mark on it), I suddendly remember the iMac G3, and all the good times I had with it (playing chess against the computer in particular), and the power mac g3 (especially playing dinopark tycoon, what can I say? I was young at that time). So after a month (or two) of research on macs and current mac prices, I still don't have a mac xx(

So now, during the summer season, my plan is to get a mac (powerpc G3 or better), so I would like to ask the people of this forum; where exactly is the best place to buy an iMac or Power Mac? And is there any online shops that allow payment using more than one credit card, as I use prepaid visa gift card to buy things online, and these cards only have $25~$100(CDN) max.

Will be lurking all summer long,

Amazingnoob

Welcome! :)

eBay and Craigslist are good places to start. There's also a Google group called LEMswap for Mac stuff.

This time of year yard sales are nuts

Im going to one tomorrow, i showed up too late today but the people were like "oh yea we have 2 tables of old pc and apple stuff"!

Another place to ask is on a local Freecycle list. While some people still pay for G3 Macs, they are quite old and you may stumble across someone who has one tucked away in the basement who would gladly give the machine to someone who would use it. If you are able to repair computers, it is worth mentioning that you are able and willing to fix it. If you are only able to fix simple problems, like installing software or replacing hard drives, just ask if the computer turns on and they can see something (anything) on the screen.

If you want to run Mac OS 9 or earlier, it may also be a good idea to ask about pre-Mac OS X software. I would imagine that there is a lot of pre-Mac OS X software that is hanging around and being unused since it won't work on Intel Macs.

If you're going to spend any money, I'd suggest a Digital Audio G4 or up. They're ridiculously cheap, but not quite at the occasional kerb score level like the G3s. You'll have a much more pleasant OS X experience with a G4 than a G3
