Not sure if this fits into the "conquest" category, but I just ordered up myself a Hackintosh from Newegg:

2.4ghz Intel Core 2 Quad (will be overclocking this probably)

4GB RAM

512mb Radeon HD3650

320gb HD

DVD Burner

I figured spending less than $700 on this and keeping my macbook pro was better than selling my macbook pro and buying a new one -- now I have a very solid desktop machine AND a very solid notebook machine.

Hope I don't have too many problems with the whole OSx86 thing... [8)] ]'>

Well, one thing to remember is that you can't do any updates unless they're hacked updates, unless you want to break your install.

Right, I understand that, the community seems to be up to the task, however.

You can install some updates, but not all. Going to 10.5.2 is easy, past that things can get a little trickier but you can still use Apple's updates with workarounds, or hacked updates without them.

What motherboard did you get? The P35 Gigabyte boards have good compatibility and even a nice GUI app to install drivers. Onboard sound, network and ports (even PS2) all work, I think the parallel and serial ports do too but haven't used them. Very nice to have a Mac with 8 USB, 6 SATA, 2 sound outputs and a real mic input port.

Nice. I just got done reinstalling mine so I could move it to a smaller HDD and use my two sata ports on my board in an effort to setup a 1TB (2x 1TB) RAID-1 (Mirrored). I am doing this because my Server went kaputzkie and I needed a machine that was up to the task of handling 1Gbit/s Throughput. So my Hackintosh is going to be up to the task

I also just got done pulling my hair out all day trying to get QE/CI/OpenGL working because I have an nVidia PNY 256MB AGP Geforce 6200 card, that although it was supported, I was having a hard time getting it working. Turned out that using KextHelper and throwing ALL the nVidia extensions into the /System/Library/Extensions folder solved the problem and once again, I am cruising with full support!

Thanks for the tips guys -- I bought a Gigabyte EP35 motherboard and have found several guides on InsanelyMac and elsewhere about installing.

I plan on using the iDeneb release, which is already at 10.5.5

Arrived today, running 10.5.5, everything works great except for sound (working on that, I may just use a separate sound device as I have a couple firewire recording interfaces that will work).

This thing is fast as hell.
