Griffin Technologies Mac·celerator Clock Accelerator for Quadra/Centris

Not sure how the special character between Mac and celerator will look once I post this, hopefully it won't break the forums 🤓

I found this on a local auction for 10 EUR and bought it. Actually not remembering that I had already replaced the oscillator on my Centris 610 but anyway...

Posting here for posterity as I couldn't find much of this online, probably thanks to the way they really wanted to call it Mac·celerator (it's typed like this all over the manual). Not to mention the very limited number of compatible systems so it probably didn't sell a lot.

The Mac·celerator is an selectable 16-speed oscillator for over-clocking a compatible Quadra/Centris 610/650, Quadra 800 or Quadra 660AV. It plugs on top of the original SMD mounted boxy oscillator on the motherboard.

It came packaged in a small blister box with a heatsink and fan (mine came without) that's supposed to be installed with the accelerator.

The IC is a W42C26-16G

Funny enough, the manual states that the Centris 610 should have 12.5Mhz oscillator from factory; my board had 10Mhz part (that I replaced with 12.5Mhz). Also the drawing in the manual doesn't match the location of the stock oscillator on my unit.

If I can find the original oscillator I might even put it back into my 610 and then install this to tweak the clock a little (the manual only gives three options for the 610: 27.2/28.1/30.2 Mhz, my CPU is a 25Mhz part so it probably wouldn't be a problem).

Very interesting, I never knew Griffin were involved in such shenanigans. The W42C26 is kind of an obscure chip. I found the datasheet and attached it. There's almost no information out there about IC Works. Apparently they were purchased by Cypress eventually.
