Good to be back…

I'm so glad the foums are back up.

On to the small bragging rights

Recent…

1x PBG3 (Needs TLC)

1x PB1400cs/166 with an apple carry bag

1x PMG3 Desktop (Needs TLC)

Misc. //c, //e and //gs gear

Upcomming…

1x IIcx

1x IIci

2x PMG3 Minitower

EDIT: And as of a couple of days ago, add to that another Performa 580, unsure of configuration, I won't know until I see it. This will make two P580s, I wonder if I should bring the specs up to that of my pride and joy…

Performa 580CD

68LC040 @ 33 MHZ

52 MB RAM (Maximum)

1.6 GB Hard Drive

8x CD-ROM Drive (Upgraded from 4x)

28.8 CommSlot MODEM

10BaseT PDS Ethernet

AV Input Card

(Now all I want is an External Video Connector)

END EDIT

I'm getting a shed too, so it's going to be part storage space, part work area, all I need is to find is $2500… (no more Anime for a while, I guess)

Aww. All that Melborne needs ... is u.

Welcome! What part of town are you and your shed in? I'm in Coburg

Very nice. :) Don't feel too bad about missing out on anime....Macs are waayyyyy better than anime any day of the week. ;)

Oi Nick - long time, good to hear from you! Are you still heading to AUSOM?

A shed is good. I'm currently looking to buy a first home - terrible decision at this time I know - but one of the main criteria is having just enough land to fit a shed onto, a bloody secure one at that, to fit all my Mac and radio control car collection inside and not annoy my girlfriend :D

G'day Jordi,

It has been a while. A house eh? Good luck with that. it's an expensive venture nowdays. Me? I'm still living with my parents at the ripe old age of 36. I could afford to move out of home, or eat, but not both.

AUSOM? Yeah I still go when I get the opportunity. it's really irrelavent to me now days, it's moved on from what I enjoy about computing. But I'm still a member because I still believe in what they used to be about. That and someone needs to hang around to snap up as many old Macs as possible. Right now I'm fighting the forces of ignorance and stupidityto keep the Apple ][ conference from being deleted on our BBS.

Oh, and speaking of Apple ][, I'm going to be getting my hands on some LEGO robotics gear, quite exciting, but getting it into the house may be a problem. I figure that as long as I've got some of the other stuff stored away neatly, the parents might not notice the extra.

Hey Nick,

Nice to hear from you, hope you are going well! The prospect of buying a house is somewhat scary, if I think about it too much it depresses me (ie. $$$$$$), but have a fairly optimistic view that something will come along one day. Cardboard or not, I look forward to owning a meagre house I can attempt to renovate.

I don't think I ever went back to AUSOM short of the time we met up (maybe a swap meet or two), it's changed too much from the good old days of "Youth and Adventure", ie. let's pirate as much stuff as can fit on 10 x 800K diskettes :D

If you're ever down the city sometime, let me know, would be good to catch up and compare whatever crazy old Apple item that's the flavour of the month with us.

Nice score on the LEGO gear! My current gem is a Powerbook 2400c - upgraded with 112MB RAM/40GB HD, 320Mhz Newertech G3, wireless card. I repaired two with a "GLOD" error - we had to source the SMT fuses from the US - and was very kindly given one to cherish. Surely not too many of these in Oz!

When's their annual swapmeet? I picked up some bargains last time I went (which was several years ago admittedly)

They usually have one a year Bunsen, but none that I can see coming up:

http://www.ausom.net.au/

... the past few turnouts have been really disappointing, and *hugely* overpriced dealers, so no doubt that's why it's gone by the wayside for the time being.

*Years* ago I had a stall at one with a heap of the biggest pile of crap you've ever seen (helped along by winning a heap of Mac games from MacWorld), and made something like $300, which for a 16 year old at the time was bloody phenomenal! :D

G'day Jordi,

With regard to the swappies, it's become impossible to hold them at our current venue, in fact we aren't even where we were with the meetings, the new address should be on the web site, and it's gotten so bad it looks like we'll be looking for a new venue entirely.

I'm pretty disillusioned with it all at the moment, I'm going to remain a member, because if the club winds up, I might score some gear if I'm lucky.

An example of how out of touch the members are, about six months ago, I wrote an article on what processor cache is for, posted it on the BBS, got two replies, one saying good article, just not relevant in this day and age, and the other, does this have anything to do with OSX, the last I thought was quite stupid, because if the person had actually read the article, they would have seen that it certainly wasn't. Getting OSX to run on a Performa 580CD would have been a good trick.

Oh, and on the subject of our BBS, I lost the battle, the retarded admin team moved the Apple ][ conference into the Mac Classic - Pre-OSX conference. at least is wasn't deleted… I posted in the conference that it was retarded, and the pic at this link:

I'm counting the hours before someone complains, and I get told off.

Top score on the 2400, available on in Japan if my memory is right, saw one at a swappie about three years ago, impressive machine even without the upgrades you've got. I have a 3400 here awaiting repair, trackpad needs replacement, it's been sitting here a while, and I'm half hoping the owner might forget about it or let me have it in exchange for something he wants.

Speaking of ones that got away, a mate of mine was moving house, and he was forced to toss a 9150, he would have told me, so I could have arranged to pick it up but he was without a phone, no landline, no mobile…and now no 9150.

No current projects on right now, did have an LC 520 lined up, but it's owner decided to give it to a friend, who promptly killed it. It would have been given the uprade treatment. I'll be doing all sorts of stuff when I get me shed. First thing I'll be doing is a proper inventory of my collection and parts stockpile. My greatest past project has been my upgraded 580, I posted the spces back at the old forums. I would have had a few things I could have done for the Retrochallenge, well, there is next year…

Heh, there is something I may be able to work on, if I can get the parts, it's not RC, but I will be bragging about it when it's done.

Nick
