Good NuBus / PDS Cards for Centris 650

I really like my centris.  I'd like to beefy it up with stuff, like for example, did anybody make any processor cards that kept the machine 68k but made it faster, like 40 MHz?  and I'd like to know some good NuBus cards I could stick in this thing.  Better video, perhaps, and Im not sure what else.  Ideas?

Yes.  Both NewerTech and MicroMac made 68040 upgrades (or overclockers) for that model.  It usually included a replacement 33 or 40MHz 68040 CPU (and fan) plus a new crystal.

Incidentally, I found this website:

http://outputenablers.com/

I think it's still active.  They appear to sell crystal kits for overclocking your computer.  All you'd need next is a 33MHz or faster 68040.

Thanks for that.  While I won't be doing any soldering, the mentioning of NewerTech and MicroMac give me a base to search eBay with.  Its time to start pimping this rig out.

The Daystar Quad 040 would also be a nice pds upgrade: 40mhz 040 and (I forget) either 128k or 256k L2 cache.

Logic board video is likely faster than any nubus video card for most purposes, certainly on a small screen, but nubus video has other specialized uses, as in panning & zooming, 24-bit colour at high resolution, pre-press technical applications, and the like. Some of those things can be interesting, and rather useful if doing CAD work or the like.

In the world of Nubus cards, 10/100 Ethernet was available, and there were cards to accelerate image processing, with DSP co-processors, there were sound cards for music editors, etc. Depends what you want to do.

Or, max it out with period peripherals instead. Check out Celgen’s ultimate IIfx project a year or two ago if you want to get inspired. It was a thing of beauty.
