good deal?

That's not the first time they have been listed. Make him a lowball offer, what have you got to lose? He may bite just to get rid of them.

Well, he just got back to me, said they have 800k drives, but then he said they are model M5011, which would peg them as FDHDs.

so, is this still good?

There were two SEs on the local freecycle last week. Since my collection is in 'purge' mode rather than 'acquire' mode I declined to offer to pick them up.

I am also in 'decline' mode for a local loaded Pismo for $200.

Freecycle is not good for specific models, but for computers in general.

If you want a specific mac try LEMSwap or the forums swaplists (and ebay at last resort).

Generally, I'd say $40 is too much to pay. SEs aren't in my view particularly collectible. Aside from being the first 68000-based Compact Mac that uses ADB and takes an internal HD, there's nothing distinctive about it.

If you specifically want an SE, and you can't find another one cheaper without having to pay shipping on it, and you have your own keyboard and mouse available, and you don't mind the possibility that you'll only be able to use 800k disks with them, then go ahead. Otherwise, I'd say offer him $20 for both, or wait for a better deal.

Best,

Matt

Ok, i'll wait then. I really like the styling on the SEs, and if I can snag one, i'll get an SE/30.

you also forgot to mention the expansion slot :)
