galgot's "new" stuff

CHEERS !!

Been able to boot the 180c HD !

2015-05-25 19.55.17.jpg

After disassembly, cleaning, shocking the hd on the sides a bit, repairing the screen bezel, I tried booting from a zip, was working ok, but  hd was doing strange noises for some time during boot. Then on another try I booted but the zip was not yet in the zip drive, but the happy Mac appeared !

It wouldn't boot to the desktop at first, saying the system was not compatible with the machine (?), then after booting from a diskette and running Disk first aid, it booted fine :)

Don't know if it'll last, but happy anyway :)

I would backup anything you have on that HDD before it goes. Because its gonna go... its probably got a quantum or a conner in it, which again, melted rubber will crash the heads soon enough.

Yes all those hard drives are on their last legs, tested a IIsi this WE (with a Conner on it) and the HD refused to work properly.

Yeah it will fail sooner or later… but anyway, still booted this morning.

It's a Quantum GO160 161mb.

Btw, noticed something funny, when it's running there is a smell like ... rotten fish, coming from the screen !

First look seems ok, but indeed when I zoom on these caps :

Misty and dirty… Do you think a good cleanup with alcohol would do for the moment ?

The other board (power I think) seems Ok , no smell, and it's clean.

well, it looks way easier than recapping a 145 display. I think it is doable.

It doesn't look that bad now, I've seen much worse. But if you don't act now you may end up with a lot of broken traces and lifted pads.

Hi !

Today got a sh…load of old network crap :p

Thanks to Bibilit for pointing that one ( the screen was good after all Louis :p ).

Another PB180c, for 10 €. Cheap ones are getting rarer around here…

After testing that earlier one with a bad screen (working 10 - 15 mn only) , I wanted one to swap screen , or anyway a working 180c cause these small color screens are niiiiiice .

Was sold as non-booting at all. Turned out to be a dead power brick. Managed to boot it on the HD after a few tries , but still that HD is troublesome. But anyway the screen looks good so far.

And also got a 1To firewire ext HD for my home file server MacMini.

Was sold as a Iomega MiniMax, but in fact wasn't. It's made by a Japanese firm called Princeton :

Funny thing, mine doesn't have any logo or brand marks, just a sr. number. And a 1 To drive, witch is not listed in the Princeton options list...

That external drive enclosure also looks like a Newer Technology one too.  Unfortunately I don't have the model number handy.

So, I'm trying to stop buying Powerbooks … trying. But I keep buying accessories.

here's what I got yesterday, complete in box :

It's handy, and goes well in the collection, a VST zip250 PB G3 drive,  VST zip100 PB G3, VST zip100 PB 1400, and that last VST zip100 PB 190/5300/3400c/Kanga.
