G4 CPU Upgrade Options

Hey everyone, I just joined the forum I have a few questions. So recently I wanted to upgrade my collection of G4's... however, trying to find a CPU upgrade is pretty expensive, is there any reasonable priced option? Currently my MDD is a 1.0ghz dual, same with my quicksilver also a 1.0ghz dual, my mystic is a 400mhz g4 and my yikes (g3 case swapped) is also a 400mhz

I'm wondering what options I can really do to upgrade all of these, especially the yikes and mystic those seem to be very sluggish, the 1.0 dual G4's seem to be doing alright but it would still be cool to upgrade them to something quicker

@herd is the person you want to talk to, they make/sell G4 upgrades.

Otherwise look out for Sonnet upgrades but they have gone up in price a lot in the past few years.

@herd do you have a sales listing or do you build to order? I have a g4 cube and want to upgrade. I already have an updated VRM module.

I may want to dual boot MacOS X and MorphOS, not sure if that intersects or not for compatibility.

Sorry to stomp on another thread, but seems related

Hello, I saw your post about a Cube CPU. I have several available and my "For Sale" thread is here:

For CPU upgrades, the Cube is more limited by available power, cooling, and space. Few of the original apple cards will even fit, but most of the aftermarket cards can fit and be converted to work in the Cube with some effort. I think ebay is still the best place to look for these: search for Sonnet, Powerlogix, Newer Technology, Giga Designs, Fast Mac, OWC, etc.

Hi, thanks for getting back to me!

Yeah, eBay in USA occasionally has Sonnet CPUs at $399 (from Japan, subject to import duties now), so it's just painful. :(

Interested in anything cube friendly (which already has an updated VRM). Or alternatively send you my existing CPU board for upgrade, or as part swap?

The dual 800+ with 7457 sounds delicious. Or a 1.4-1.5 single?

Do fw updates drop into the os as some kind of "enabler" or drop into the Open Firmware? My concern would be that OS based means alternative OS's (Linux, MorphOS) may have issues?

I'm in WA, cheers.
Brian.

Oops, thought I was replying to a pm, will reach out directly.
