Free Digital Audio G4, Performa 6116CD and extras

A friend of mine reached out while I was out of town for WWDC and sent me a picture of some Mac hardware that he was looking to give to a new home. Needless to say, his house was one of the first places I went when I got back. In the picture, I saw a pre-Quicksilver G4 and a 6100-series Power Mac with display and external hard drive.

For some reason I've wanted a Digital Audio G4 for quite a while, and I thought it would be nice to have alongside my Cube. I was happy to see this was one, the dual 533MHz model. After a wipe down and interior cleaning, I powered it up and immediately cringed. The 60GB Maxtor fired up with an incredibly shrill whine... but it booted into a clean installation of 10.4.11.

It has an upgraded (non-Apple) DVD-RW drive, 250MB Zip, 1.5GB of RAM, and for some reason it had a Rage Pro with VGA and DVI... not ADC. I've swapped out the screaming hard drive for a much quieter 80GB, and I had a Radeon 9000 Pro in my spare parts box, so the graphics card has been swapped as well. Aside from some sticker residue on the top of the case, it's in beautiful shape. I installed OS 9.2.2 and 10.4.11, but haven't done much else yet.

The 6100 turned out to be a Performa 6116CD, which makes two for me! 60Mhz, 40MB of RAM and a 700MB hard drive, no cards installed. The case got a wipe down but the interior was surprisingly clean. The external hard drive works as well, no excessive noise either. The Mac's internal drive has a pretty bogged down install of 7.6 at the moment, soon to be a clean install of 7.6.1 or 8.1. The keyboard and mouse needed a wipe down but have very little yellowing. The Multiple Scan 14's display is bright and has no burn in, but sadly, I've already broken a piece of the plastic off the front. The door over the controls is missing and one of the knobs is broken. Still, not too bad considering.
