Found: PM 7300/200 case with everything except logic board

I was walking home from dinner yesterday evening when I happened upon the 7300. No yellowing... what strange luck I have lately. It still had the 2GB SCSI HD, 12x CD-ROM and SuperDrive within it.

I'm thinking of putting my 8600/200 board in the 7300 case so that the 8600 case is preserved. What do you think?

I agree in principle. I was just wondering if it would have been worthwhile to use the 7300 case to prevent yellowing of the 8600, since it's basically my #2. Those bulky, tall 86/9600 towers are imposing and attractive, I must admit.

There was a ton of outstanding software on the 7300 HD. Mathematica, Microsoft Office 98 (now if I could just locate a copy that would run on my classics), Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop 6. Apparently, it was originally owned by Columbia University, which is a strange coincidence as I attended the same. Hopefully the person who received the system got years of good use out of it before removing the logic board and tossing the case on the street for me to cherish.

This is the second system I've found curb-side in NY. I also once found a PM 8500/120/G4350 with 512MB RAM and a Radius PrecisionView 17. The person had put it out hoping someone would pick it up and find some use from it, as the note on the case indicated. The 8500 had issues, such as dead ethernet on both connectors. She doesn't live today, as a result of her problems which probably resulted in her being curbed. Her RAM and Daughtercard live on in my 8600, though. Not to mention the gorgeous Radius monitor with Trinitron can hit 1280x1024 at 60hz and millions of colors (just not on my 8600).

Yep, a beige G3 board will fit in the 7300 case as they essentially share the same desktop casing. I would go with TheNeil's recommendation of keeping the 8600 board where it is though so that the machine is pretty and useful! If you're worried about case yellowing then make sure the 8600 is kept out of direct sunlight and that no-one smokes near it.

I have a 7300/200 logic board that currently isn't doing anything except gathering dust in my shed (It was removed in favour of a 7600 board for the A/V subsystem). If you were closer I'd let you have it but international shipping on something that large is likely to be more money and trouble than it's worth
