FDDI network on NuBus macs

Hi guys,

I just wanted to show what I have, just FYI.

Did you know that something like that existed?

It's Cabletron F6069 multimode fiber network adapter. Supposed to work at around 100 Mb/s, although I wasn't able to get it to run that fast. I think NuBus itself is a bottleneck.

Works under System 7 and A/UX (not tested).

(From my collection.)

I have heard that one existed but it was mentioned years ago on some then ancient web 1.0 page. That is however the first time I have seen a picture though.

Nope, never seen one before. Nubus can do 25MB/sec or so and thats about it. I assume the 2 cable ports on top were connected to something else (HD controller maybe?) to get around the BUS speed issue?

NuBus in theory should be plenty fast to handle 100Mb/s. (Small "b" equaling "bit"). At best that's only about 12 megabytes per second, and real world is usually lower. MacOS, on the other hand, has a number of architectural problems that are probably intervening to slow that down even more.

Those two cable ports connect to optional daughterboard with another optical connector therefore making the whole assembly a DAS (Dual Attach Station). I've got that one too, but haven't made picture yet.

Anyone know how to upload PDFs? I can upload manual for those that are interested.

Cheers,
