Farallon Phonenet PC card

I acquired a PhoneNet PC card (ISA or PCI...not sure..).

I'm wondering? Is there anyone with experiance with these cards? Will they work under Windows XP? And what about Linux? If they work under Linux I could maybe build my own AppleTalk / TCP/IP router???

Here are some pictures. There are manuals and software with it too. It has a DB-9 connector and a PhoneNet dongle. On the card number:

Definitely an ISA card, so I don't know if you will have much luck with running it in XP, but it might be possible.

I wonder if we can adapt any regular RS422 card for LocalTalk with the proper software. The main trick seems to be getting a given software to look for the chosen hardware. There was also a program called PC MacLan which allowed for EtherTalk networks on Windows - and somebody even sold a parallel port to Localtalk adaptor for it.

I have an original Apple LocalTalk ISA card. I doubt very much it would work in XP. The software I have is DOS only.

Amusingly, it's easier to get the PC to share and get files from the LocalTalk network, rather than using TCP/IP with the Ethernet card it also has.

Yes I agree that PC MacLan is much more easy and better in 2011. I have it running and I can see all my machines in the LocalTalk Zone and Ethernet Zone. Bridging is done thanks to my new Shiva FastPath 5 router.

That means that I don't really need a PhoneNET PC card, but I see it as fun to get it working. I have seen that these cards are supported by the Linux kernel too, so I will have a look at this too. See f.i.
