So yesterday after uni, Mum and I went to the local tip shop. This is the place that often has nothing, but in the past has been quite fruitful to me, in the way of a K6/266, PowerBook 520c, NIB Slocket adaptor, and a couple of other things.
Anyway, yesterday afternoon I saw an old 56k serial modem there, and asked how much they wanted. $1. Its just the modem, no cables or anything. I bought it.
Its a "Companion Modem Research" (whoever the hell that is
) 56k modem using the "Maestro Jetstream 56" chipset, according to Windows XP.
Only problem is getting power to it. It has no power adaptor, and needs 9VDC at 400mA, and has a 1/8" minijack socket for power. I have a universal power adaptor with the required voltage and plug, but only 300mA. It works, but on my LCIII at least, it can't establish a reliable connection, most likely due to the fact that its not getting enough power. Unfortunately, every single 9V adaptor I have only seems to put out some stupid amount of power between 200 and 300 mA, nowhere near enough the 400 that the modem needs.
Oh, and I had a job this afternoon with our neighbour, who gave me the Logitech USB keyboard that she bought for her Acer 2 years ago about 3 months before the Acer died. Not a bad keyboard, I've got it on the iMac.
