Ext Hard Disks

Yesterday, i collected some free stuff, a set of 3 external hard disks.

One of them is a Quantum Passport XL, the funny thing about it is that is removable

The chassis is supplied with a switch and the hard disk is ejected like an auto-inject floppy.

Once the HD is removed, a door will fill the gap.

Of course, i have had a look inside, the HD is quite unusual :

Looking some information, i have discovered that the set was sold $ 1,317 new :O

The other one is more or less the same size, HD is bigger (400 Mo instead of 105 Mo) but not so unusual :

Both were filthy, and one is still yellow.

The last one is a 500 Mo HD.

None of them has been tested yet (previous owner advised they were OK) and also collected the SCSI cables...anyway i can't complain !

I have tested the set of Hard Disks, and all are OK :b&w:

One of them has SSW 7.1 on it, and the other has lot of Mac icons (most of them are from the X-men comics... being myself a fan of Wolverine, this was a logic choice for the new HD icon)

Today was a very hot day here in France, and a very sunny day, i removed the front panel of the hard disk and set a Retrobrite bath.

Just used oxy crystals this time (didn't used hydrogen Peroxyde for a change) and get more or less the same result.

As you can see from the picture above the panel was pretty yellow, now is nice and white.

A small modification was made also, two LED are present, but only one of them was wired (the activity was not) but the HD was able to support thispict0414.jpg

Both wires were connected, and hot glue used to prevent any short.

Was tested and working great !
