Enormous SIMM!

Just bought a Plus, and took it apart for a look. Startled to find bizarre, huge things in the SIMM sockets. One was an expander board, using four 256KB simms, fair enough. Two other slots have normal 1MB SIMMs. But the other slot had an enormous board with 32 chips! Yes, a 32 chip 1MB SIMM. Mental.

Sadly, it was so big, it caught in the chassis as I took the logic board out, and lifted one of the chips off, so I need to repair it (any tips on that?).

Funny sitting it next to a DDR3 SODIMM with 4,000 times the capacity...

Holy crap!!!!!!!!!!!! 8-o

I've got G3 Accelerators that aren't a whole lot larger than that SIMM monster!

I'd LOVE to see a pic of your 256k keyshain SIMM Saver!

Sixteen of those 256k SIMMs could almost put a Classic Mac over its power/cooling budget! }:)

That is a whopper though I received a set of 16Mb SIMM's that there oversized (in terms of height).

4x 16Mb 30-Pin SIMMS (sorry for the blurriness):

I've got a set of 8 MiB 30p SIMMs almost as large as tokyoracer's...

But the main problem with mine is that they have chips on both sides, so they won't fit on the Quadra 700 -- too thick! :-(

They did fine on the IIsi, though.

I've got one of those still in the shrinkwrap. It also came with an adapter that let you plug a couple of 256k SIMMs into a single SIMM socket. With both, you could get your Mac Plus from 1mb up to 2mb

That will be hard to fix without a sufrace mount hot air gun. I have seen pictures of huge SIMMs like that before but never owned any (would be cool to have a set to mount on the wall). I would bet that SIMM was very expensive when new, wonder what the machine it was installed in was used for.
